Welcome back!
Swimmers came in to practices on Monday and Tuesday with big smiles on their faces, obviously glad to be back at home in our pool. Thanks to Lynne Washbish for coordinating our “Welcome Back” parties after practice, with cake for everyone! We were very fortunate that our coaches were able to work out pool times at various places, not an easy task in the city of Lexington, so that swimmers didn’t have to miss a lot of practice time. Thanks to everyone for their patience and flexibility during our time “away”. Great things happen when we all work together. Go Dolphins!
January Swim Meets:
Congratulations to all of the swimmers that swam in the Z-Freeze meet last weekend. Results for the meet can be found at http://results.zionsvilleswimclub.org. Many swimmers had best times in multiple events and many swimmers swam events for the first time. As usual, the Dolphins swam well in Zionsville, and brought home LOTS of ribbons. Ribbons for this meet are in the family folders.
Our 13 and over team trip was also successful. To top it off, Senior Russ Bryant came home with another team record in the 1,000 yd. freestyle, 9.51.38. Congratulations Russ!
Information about Championship Meets:
As we prepare for the upcoming Championship season, here are a few things to keep in mind:
All 8 and under swimmers who have swam in a meet, and have a time, are eligible to swim at the State 8 and under meet. Swimmers will be entered in all events in which they have a time, except the 100 yard freestyle and the 100 IM, these events require a qualifying time.
Everyone else, 9 and over, must have a qualifying time in order to swim at the Championship meet, these times are called A Times or A Cuts. These time standards can be found on the KY Swimming Website. While the 9-12 and the 13 and over meets are split into two weekends, they are considered one meet. Competiton age groups are determined by the swimmers’ age the first day of the meet, this year it is age as of March 16.
There will be some swimmers who may not have A times in individual events, that may be asked to swim on a State relay. Coaches will let these swimmers/families know as it gets closer to the meets.
Swim-A-Thon:
The Dolphins Annual Swim-A-Thon is scheduled for February 4, 2012! You should have received a detailed email earlier. If you are interested in helping with this event, please contact Di Sobel at or 433-5887.
The coaches want everyone to come to their scheduled time for the swim-a-thon as they will run it as a regular practice and will set it up as a way to meet the 180 mile team goal. And, there will be drinks and snacks provided for swimmers following each practice group
Swim-a-thon Times:
Blue group 8:00-10:00 AM
Red group 10:00-11:30 AM
Yellow and White groups 11:30 AM-1:00 PM
Envelopes from USA swimming to collect donations will be placed in family folders this week. Contact friends, family, neighbors, teachers to ask them to sponsor you for your swimming in the swim-a-thon. Donations to the team are tax deductible as we are a 501 C (3) organization.
Whether or not you collect money for the swim-a-thon, turn the envelopes back to Susan Bravard, as we have to return the unused envelopes to USA Swimming. Envelopes will be collected the morning of the swim-a-thon.
Earning potential:
$ 3,000 if every family raises $ 25
$ 6,000 if every family raises $ 50
$12,000 if every family raises $100
$24,000 if every family raises $200
Many of you plan to use the swim-a-thon to meet your fundraising obligation. Participation is voluntary for all who have already met that goal, but we ask that every family please make every effort to participate. This is a fairly easy fundraiser with the potential to make thousands of dollars for our team.
Incentive prizes:
The top fundraiser from each swim group will be “Coach for a Day”. Any swimmer who raises over $250 will be able to “Pie” the coach of his/her choice in the face during our State Meet Pep Rally in MarchJ
Contact Di Sobel at or 433-5887 with questions.
Bingo:
Midnight Bingo is going great! Our last one we had 245 players and sold over 20,000 pulltabs. We started selling at 10:30 and ended at 2:30am, and we had a blast! More sellers are need for the next 2 upcoming sessions, Feb 3 and March2. Please consider helping, working midnight bingo can eliminate one of your Monday nights.
The schedule for May – August is up at the pool, please sign up for your spots. If you don’t know how many you need to work or have any questions, email Michelle Zachman –
